RISE is an exercise-based therapy program for individuals living with paralysis. Our program focuses on function, strength and improving the physiology and neurological function of the body.
“We believe that MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE and encourages you to PLAY EVERY DAY, EMBRACE CHANGE and BUILD an open-minded environment to improve function and your QUALITY OF LIFE.”
What Is RISE?
RISE is an exercise-based therapy program for individuals living with paralysis. Our program focuses on function, strength and improving the physiology and neurological function of the body. With a highly skilled team of exercise-based therapy trainers our team is expansive in neurological conditions and sessions are focused on healing the functionality of your physiological and neurological system.
Wheelchair Free
Your body was designed to MOVE! Clients’ recovery sessions are conducted with you out of your chair to get you moving again!
Reduced Dependency on Medication
Many of our clients have found to have a reduced dependency on medication or entirely rid their use thereof.
Overall Improved Quality of Life!
“Use it or lose it!”. We get your brain thinking again by stimulating your central nervous system (CNS), which helps promote neuroplasticity by rebuilding and reorganizing the pathways your brain needs to communicate with your body.
Our step-by-step method of action ensures that each client’s needs are carefully addressed and supports our mission in achieving your recovery goals.
Methodology
ASSESS
The most important and first step of recovery is the client’s body, mindset and willingness to overcome obstacles.
DIAGNOSE
Identifying and understanding the client’s injury/condition is crucial to educate ourselves and the client to build a plan of recovery.
EDUCATE
Upon initial evaluation, we review the client’s assessment, goals for recovery and review the mental and physical fortitude it will require of them.
PROGRAM
Design a program according to the client — based on their recovery needs and goals.
GUIDE
Reassure the client has the support of their RISE community and family as they follow their plan for recovery.
Our recovery programs at RISE are custom specific to each individual that comes through our doors. Program design is based specifically on the individual’s needs and full body assessment and not solely your paralysis related injury and/or condition.

RISE Scholarship Program
Recovery sessions are mostly paid out of pocket by clients since insurance coverage does not cover our services due to our “out of the box” approach towards recovery. Unfortunately, not everyone who needs therapy can afford it.
Our RISE scholarship program was launched to assist with some financial assistance for clients looking to support their recovery journey in association with Forma Gym’s “Forma Kids Foundation 501(c)3.” Scholarships are given based primarily on financial need, and are reviewed and awarded on a quarterly basis. There are typically more applicants than we have scholarships to give, so not all applicants will be funded and the same individual will not receive more than one scholarship. Applicants who have not selected may be considered in the next funding cycle.
If you are interested in helping sponsor a RISE client or want to support our RISE scholarship program, we invite you to make a tax deductible donation to the Forma Gym [Forma Kids Foundation 501(c)3]. 100% of the proceeds from this campaign will go towards scholarships for RISE clients.
RISE Scholarship Recipients
Meet and be inspired by our RISE UP Scholarship Recipients. Thank you to everyone that has donated to provide exercise-based therapy program for individuals that are unable to afford it – our scholarship program reminds us how incredibly resilient the human body and spirit are to heal and grow, given the right support, environment and community.

My Story
Growing up, I was always immersed in playing sports while being intrigued on how the human body can compete at higher levels. This was one of the main reasons why I went to school to study Kinesiology with hopes to become a strength and conditioning coach. During my undergrad at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, I volunteered in different health and fitness settings such as physical therapy clinics, strength and conditioning facilities and aquatic biomechanics research labs. This motivated me to pursue a career in personal training after college. With this prior experience, I enjoy offering my knowledge in transforming unhealthy habits into fueling healthy minds and bodies. My goal is to pursue a career as a physical therapist while educating individuals on how to live healthier lifestyles by utilizing body movement.
My Philosophy
Learning how to be comfortable while being uncomfortable is one of the greatest tools to become a better you.
Experience
- Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Sciences

My Story
Sports have always been my outlet. Growing up as a year round competitive swimmer and club soccer player, I loved challenging myself and pushing my body to its limits. My passion for health & fitness continued to grow as I explored other avenues of physical fitness such as triathlon races and open water swimming. While attending college at University of Hawaii, I worked in various Physical Therapy Clinics, Athletic Training facilities, and Aquatic Research labs. From these experiences, I learned how to connect with individuals from various backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life. My goal is to continue expanding my knowledge in kinesiology & rehabilitation sciences by pursuing my Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
My Philosophy
Feed your focus; starve your distractions!

My Story
I have been an athlete my entire life, as a result my interest in sports rehabilitation turned into a passion of mine. The human body is one of the most fascinating and resilient systems that continues to drive my curiosity. I have worked in many different fitness facilities including gyms, physical therapy clinics, and athletic training centers. I am constantly learning about all aspects of fitness and athletics; currently working on a neuromuscular massage therapy license. I am excited to fully utilize my skills and help people along the way.

I wouldn't necessarily call myself an athlete, but I do enjoy the journey of training. My Story
I grew up a top 5 ranked junior tennis player in Montreal, Canada. Eat, sleep, breathe tennis was my life from the age of 3 until midway through college. I got offered a walk on scholarship for tennis my freshman year, but turned it down due to a torn ACL. Long story short, I managed to rehab my ACL post surgery within 1 month & started an internship as an assistant to a sports performance facility. During that time, my mentor challenged me everyday mentally & physically, this just made me want to learn more, especially the mind to body connection. I surprised myself with how much I’d accomplish and I love that my job allows me to think outside the box!

My Story
I grew up in Australia and England. During my first year in college I met my now husband playing badminton. In 2010 we decided to move to California. In need of a hobby (and loving the American food) I started running and have completed over 25 half marathons, 6 full marathons, an ultra marathon and many endurance races. In my spare time I love to be outdoors with my son and husband.
My goal is to push you just past your comfort zone, to see where your body can take you working towards your goals.

My Story
I’m a Virginia native, dog lover, and Coast Guard Veteran. For as long as I can remember, my life has always revolved around sports from playing field hockey in high school and lacrosse in college to ice hockey for the Coast Guard in Alaska. After getting out of the military, I wanted to make a difference and help change lives one by one. I have a passion for helping others achieve something they didn’t think was possible like gaining ability and strength in their recovery process. I strive for helping others build confidence while enjoying the process.
